Rotary Wheel, Bobbin Holder & Thread Guide

Singer Stitch Sew Quick Hand Held 01663 Sewing Machine sampleThe big Red round circle exactly below the Singer symbol is the rotary wheel. All of us have used stapler in our day-to-day chores. Singer Stitch Sew Quick Hand Held 01663 is very similar to the size and shape of the stapler. As to stapler any bundle of sheets we widen the arm of the stapler and place the bundle inside it and press the lower and the upper arm of the stapler to put pressure enough to bind the sheets together. Similar is the case with this mending tool. For inserting and removing the cloth or the fabric between the arms of the tool a rotary wheel is given. There are two ways to rotate the wheel according to your requirement. Initially when you have to place the cloth within the arms rotate the wheel in the clockwise sense to widen its arms. After placing the material rotate the wheel in an anticlockwise sense to bring the arms closer so that you start the stitch. While inserting the cloth or fabric of your choice
take proper care you don’t hurt your finger with the needle; to avoid this make sure to have widened the arms to its fullest. Once you are done with the stitch and satisfied with the work rotate the wheel in a clockwise sense again.

A bobbin holder is nothing but a bobbin case or a stand to hold the bobbin. Now in case of our handy mending machine, the machine is provided with a bobbin holder. As shown in the figure above there is a little red disc-shaped part. That part of the bobbin holder ensures that your bobbin is not getting out of the holder creating a disturbance in your stitching task. To insert the bobbin in the holder simply remove the red disc or the cap of the bobbin holder and place your bobbin on the holder. Make sure that you tighten the cap properly before you start stitching. The bobbin holder will not only hold the string but also will allow the machine to neatly unravel the thread. The bobbin holder also adds tension to the thread. Considering the tension the machine is provided with a tension control which will be described in the next section later.

The next component is the “thread guide”. So, the machine comes up with 2 thread guides. The crucial task carried on by the thread guide is guiding and directing the thread all the way to the needle. Two thread guides are provided to make sure that the thread neither does the thread loose tension nor does it get tangled while it reaches the needle. The first thread guide is shown in the figure above which exactly placed above the bobbin holder guides the thread towards the tension control. As the tension control is placed at higher position on the machine as compared to the bobbin holder a thread guide is required to maintain the height of the string coming from the bobbin holder.

The second thread guide is placed after the tension control under the bulgy area. This part is again necessary to direct the thread coming from
the tension control to the needle eye. This is provided to help the thread move into the needle in a straight path without getting tangled. It also prevents the thread breakage because if the thread directly moves to the needle it may break due to its slant path as the thread comes all the way long covering 3/4th of the tension control.

Tension Control, Set Screw

Singer Stitch Sew Quick Hand Held 01663 Sewing Machine sampleTension control is the red wheel-like component placed on the right side of the bulge of the stapler shaped machine. It is placed between the two thread guides. The only reason why your machine is contained with the tension control between these thread guides is that it manages to appropriately either tighten or loosen the thread while it is being directed towards the eye of the needle. Singer Stitch Sew Quick mending machine allows you to adjust the tension in the thread by just rotating the wheel. If you think your stitch is too tight rotate the tension control slightly to the left else if you think it is too loose rotate it to the right.

Maintaining the tension in the thread is a very important part of the whole stitching task. A loose tensioned thread may result in a loose and imperfect stitch, on the other hand, a tight thread may result either into breakage or into a tight stitch. An unnecessary extra tight stitch may result in folds and overlaps on the stitched cloth. However, as you have come so far adjusting the tension is no big deal for you in your stitching journey! Set Screw is nothing but the screw fixed exactly on the front section of Singer Stitch Sew Quick mending machine. Your stitching activity may The second thread guide is placed after the tension control under the
bulgy area.

This part is again necessary to direct the thread coming from the tension control to the needle eye. This is provided to help the thread move into the needle in a straight path without getting tangled. It also prevents the thread breakage because if the thread directly moves to the needle it may break due to its slant path as the thread comes all the way long covering 3/4th of the tension control

Working

You are now all set to start with this stitching adventure and explore your hobby. Place the bobbin wrapped with your favourite colour thread on the bobbin holder. Take the hold of the thread wrapped over the bobbin and guide it through the thread guide just to provide it with the necessary tension and direction. Once the thread is out from the eye-shaped thread guide to roll it over the tension control. The thread must cover approximately ¾ part of the tension control. Now for placing the thread into the needle, pass needle threader with inserted thread through the eye of the needle; now remove the threader. Bravo!! You are now done with all the primary things necessary for stitching on our mending master.

Next, choose the cloth you want to stitch and place it within the machine with the help of the rotary wheel as discussed earlier. Hold the cloth in your left hand and grab the machine in your right hand. Start the switch and start stitching!! Remember not to rush your machine to fast through the cloth as it may cause loose or tight stitches or may tear or the cloth. Tension in a sewing machine refers to the pull of the thread between the needle and the bobbin. Sewing machines have tension discs or tension regulator. If the stitch is too saggy or too tight, the most likely cause is a tension problem. For taking your cloth out of the machine rotate the rotary wheel until the upper arm of the machine is at its highest position as discussed in the rotary wheel section.

Lastly, use a seam ripper or scissors to pull it out and cut the thread. Now to fasten the stitch pull threader through the last stitch and knot it to ensure it won’t get off. Well, that’s all you need to know while you are stitching with the help of this little stitching master!!

This machine works best for small tasks that you can do yourself without depending on anyone else. Gone are the days when you took appointments for that traditional stitching on heavy machines to sew simple torn fabrics or even altering your favourite clothes which you were not available to wear due to the size issue. It works best for small fabric parts or maybe patchworks. Once you read the manual or even this little review it’s very easy for you to make creative pieces for accomplishing your hobby and even meeting the daily needs every household has. This is an extension to directly load the whole reel of the thread of your favourite colour and choice. It will be very helpful once you have mastered the art of stitching and don’t want to create a disturbance in your hobby work for filling the bobbin again and again.

You can make little purses or showpieces or even certain accessories your home sweet home requires!
