In the summer, air conditioners are the only things that can rescue us. We cannot think about spending the summer hours without its help. But, we do not think of cleaning them that often.
It is necessary to clean the air conditioners because the air, cooled down by them, is circulated everywhere in the room. If the room is dirty or untidy, the dirt molecules will also get circulated inside the room with the air. It is extremely hazardous for our health. There are millions of germs and viruses that are also getting circulated in the air. That is why we should clean our air-conditioners more often, especially if they are portable. In that case, they are more prone to collect the dirt from the surroundings and circulating them through the air.
But cleaning air conditioners seem to be a great deal. Do not worry anymore. I will share with you some really easy steps to clean your portable air-conditioners.
The Methods of Cleaning Portable Aircons:
I will share the step-by-step processes to clean the portable aircon. Read them carefully.
Cleaning the reservoir:
Things you will need:
- A screwdriver
- A wet wipe or
- Moist cloth
- A bucket
- Clean air filter
The process:
Unplug: Unplug the aircon and place it on a safe surface.
Disassemble: Start disassembling the parts that are detachable with the help of a screwdriver. Again, you can take the help of the user manual. Start with one by one and place the parts aside.
Draining: Draining the water out of the reservoir is very important. Air conditioners collect the tiny water molecules from the surroundings. They can be the ideal place where germs and bacteria can build up very easily. If they are not cleaned properly, it can cause breathing trouble to those people who suffer from dust allergies.
To empty the reservoir, take a bucket and hold the gadget upright. The bucket will collect all the water. If your aircon has an inbuilt drainage system, then you do not have to remove the water. Instead, just add a pipe to the exit point, and the water will come out.
You should do this at least twice a week to avoid any health hazards. In addition, some aircon is designed to notify you when the reservoir is full.
Cleaning the filter:
If your aircon has a washable air filter, then this is the process you should follow. Keeping the air filter clean is very important because it plays a major role in cooling down the air and circulating it. If you find that your air filter is untidy or has collected a lot of dirt, consider cleaning it immediately.
All you have to do is just use a vacuum cleaner and suck out all the dirt from it. Then take a bucket and pour some liquid laundry cleaner or any liquid soap. Add lukewarm water to it and make a foamy solution. Place the air filter inside the bucket and give it a rest. After half an hour, take the air filter out of the bucket and rinse it with plain water. Let it dry completely and put it back into the aircon.
Replacing the filter:
If your aircon does not come with a washable air filter, you need to replace the old air filter with a new one. First, check at least once a month to ensure that the air filter is clean and dirt-free. Then, if you find it untidy, buy a new air filter that is compatible with your gadget and replace the old one.
Cleaning the coils:
Things you need:
- A brush
- Moist cloth
- Cleaning solution
The process:
Buy the solution: The coils can also collect dirt very easily. So to clean them, you can buy a specialized cleaning solution made for cleaning the coils.
Wiping off: With the help of the brush, wipe off any dust or dirt that is stuck with the coils. Do it gently because you do not want to damage them, as buying a new one will make a hole in your pocket.
Cleaning: Take a moist cloth and wipe the coils to ensure no residue is leftover on the coils.
Cleaning the panels: As the aircon collects the air from the surroundings and then circulates it after cooling it down, a lot of dirt or hair gets stuck with the panels. Take a moist cloth and wipe off any dust or hair stuck with them. You should clean the panels of your aircon more frequently.
Assemble: Let all the parts dry properly and assemble them. Take the help of the user manual if you are doing it for the first time. Now your portable aircon is completely safe to use.
